Arelia: The Age of Talismans

The Realms The Arunya Language Government Creatures People Schools Story

Welcome to Arelia! This is a site describing the story I have been working on for around three or four years now about the young Prince Atlantis and his friends as they embark upon their journey to defeat the diabolical Meldrid the Angel of the Dark Sun. Click "Story" above if you wish to read already or use any of the other links here to learn more about their world.

Protagonists

Prince Atlantis is a fiery young monarch with presiding power over the seven primary talismans, which possess the forces of Faith, Hope, Love, Courage, Kindness, Friendship, and Truth. He is the son of King Poseidon and Queen Amphitrite, the Supreme Rulers of Arelia. Each of his brothers, in some way or another find themselves incapable of ruling the island (one of them is a blind cyclops, for instance), and so the task of succeding his father has fallen upon him. He is also, along with the "progeny of the Dark Sun", been chosen by the oracular Fate Destiny, to die defeating the Dark Angel Meldrid. Life really couldn't get much worse.

Links Roel used to live in Germany with her grandparents until she took a fateful vacation about a year ago and crashed near the shore of the magical island of Arelia. She was found by Ananke the Air Angel and has since lived in the Angel Palace with the five Guardians of Arelia. Nite the Archangel sent her to Atlantis saying they were meant to be together. Links can only hope this will answer questions about the parents she never knew.

Other Good Guys

Christian, a Kantch boy who works for King Poseidon along with his own booth in the market, is Atlantis's best friend. He came from Haordi Island to earn money for his family. His father is a farmer there and his mother, a housewife.

Professor Robert Attenson, who works at Lensaton College, is a lesser friend of Atlantis, but all the same one of them. He is probably Allenser Jens's biggest fan regardless of their differing views about Natives. Attenson always wanted to be a Professor and even took a few courses at Ilian College for the Arunya under the Intelligence Corps Division.

Princess Oddysey of the Realm of Fire is likely the most out-spoken monarch of any realm on Arelia. She is Arulin and very tall with red hair. Her favorite hobby could best be described as teasing Atlantis about his hair.

Allenser Jens is an author that claims to be an American despite the fact that no one can seem to trace a time when his family wasn't on the island. He has a younger brother and a terrible secret that everyone is curious about. He writes about Arelia and its history but throughout his books he insults Natives of the island and no one knows why exactly. Because of this behavior, he is one of Atlantis's enemies.

Fayne Jens, Allenser's brother, is one of the things that Allenser keeps suppressing, for some reason. No one knew about him until recently and no one understands why Allenser seems to hate him.

Prince Awean of the Realm of the Earth is a Nowech, meaning he is a descendent of Merlin. But despite this prize ancestry, he can never seem to perform a decent bit of magic. All he really needs is a little confidence or motivation really, but he never comes into contact with someone who can give him that.

Kalixia, Awean's fiance, is vivacious, melodramatic, and beautiful with her Elven blood. She loves Awean with all her heart but sometimes she forgets that he's not the least accident-prone person in the world and might yell at him a bit.

Jeren and Fawn are originally from the Realm of the Earth but recently have moved to Lensaton in hopes of finding less prejudice against Jeren's lupine qualities. Jeren is a werewolf and, though she tries her best, Fawn, his sister, doesn't always have what it takes to care for him. They are very close-knit and from a Calinowayn-Nororm family.

James and Christina Rodericks, the newly arrived Seacultures, are just getting used to things there on Arelia. They haven't picked up on everything but soon they will. Though Christina is the older one, James often finds himself being the more practical one. She can be ditzy sometimes but they are still affectionate to each other.

Karen Matrix is the feminist Knight representing the Realm of Air in the Champion's game of Swords and Spears. She has too much of a personality according to Atlantis, but she becomes bearable as the story unfolds. Aiden and she grow together as friends once they meet.

Aiden, the son of David and Ruaya Fortenberry, has a personality very close to his fathers, perhaps because of his mother's death early in his life. David is one of Arelia's heroes (see Maps for more details) and Aiden supports him all the way.

Martin Bailey is a Chaftraem in the Arelian Arunya but recently has lost his popularity with those that command him. Atlantis still finds wonderful qualities in him, however. He has several medals and is as gallant as any other.

Meagan Tenpenney, a Chathtrue in Martin's group, is one of his greatest confidants and friends. She always believes in him and he can tell her anything. There is always the question of love, but it hasn't popped up quite yet.

The Angel Palace

Nite the Archangel is the head Angel of Arelia. She rules over the island above even Poseidon and guards everyone with the help of the other for Guardians.

Lapis the Water Angel is the Guardian of the Realm of Water. She is the second oldest guardian and protects her realm with the Talisman of the Ocean.

Ananke the Air Angel, the youngest Guardian, watches over the Realm of Air with the Talisman of Wind

Tethys the Earth Angel is the third eldest Guardian and guards the Realm of the Earth with the Talisman of Earth.

Io the Fire Angel, the second youngest Guardian Angel and watches the Realm of Fire with the Talisman of Ash which was stolen from her by Meldrid.

Destiny and Fate are the Fates of the Angels. They predict what will happen and thus help the Angels in their protection of the island. Fate is Destiny's son and hasn't quite gotten the hang of predictions, but he's well on his way.

Antagonists

Meldrid the Angel of the Dark Sun was once just a simple Salinsarin Native, but during the Age of Death transformed herself into an Angel. Since then she has been torturing and destroying the people of Arelia. See History for more information.

Coyrs is one of Meldrid's two right-hand men. He is a pirate and follows after the rest of his family. See History for more information.

Ideha is Meldrid's other main henchman. His past is uncertain and he serves as the representative Knight for the Realm of Magic in the Champion Game of Swords and Spears.
